As the Holidays quickly approach us, experts and a study on cultural diversity uncover their thoughts on Italian traditional dishes and the magnitude of cultural diversity to compliment what the students at Michigan State University of different cultural backgrounds eat for Thanksgiving dinner.
Who are the experts?
Salvatore Vorgia, a chef at Da Francesco's Italian restaurant in Shelby Township, MI, and a study on cultural diversity done by Lisa D. Belfield of Kaplan University.
So, what do they say?
Vorgia said that he sees most traditional Italian dishes to be pasta, specifically lasagna. In addition to a main dish, Vorgia also said that the most traditional dessert is Tiramisu.
When asked if there was a common ingredient amongst most traditional Italian dishes, Vorgia said "Ricotta cheese."
A study done on cultural diversity by Lisa D. Belfield of Kaplan University, states that only 80 percent of Americans marked their ethnicity as “white” on the 2009 Census Bureau.
"There are many ethnic groups in the United States, due in large part to its immigrant population; each of these groups contributes to America’s cultural heritage," the study said.

What The Students Say
As the holidays are upon us, students from different cultural backgrounds at Michigan State University reveal that they eat foods traditional to their culture such as potato dumplings and Farofa, instead of the typical "turkey and stuffing."
Who are the students?
Ellie Tinney, a German student at MSU, and Gabi Molina, a Brazilian student at MSU.
So, what do they say?
Tinney said that her family always eats traditional German foods such as potato dumplings instead of mashed potatoes.
"Even when we go to my other, more traditional side for the U.S. Thanksgiving, we always bring the dumplings with us," Tinney said.
Molina, said that there are a few traditional Brazilian dishes that her family makes sure to include during Thanksgiving, ever since moving to the U.S.
"We have traditional Brazilian stuff—like— rice and beans, Brazilian steak with Farofa (a cassava flour mixture), and for dessert we have apple pie and Brigadeiro, which is a super traditional Brazilian dessert, " Molina said.
